Denkamilk calves - 6 November 2024

Years of developments in breeding and nutrition have changed the composition of milk from modern dairy cows. The fat and protein content has increased and the concentration of vitamins and minerals has decreased. As a result, the composition of cow’s milk no longer matches the needs of the calf in today’s farming systems.

Calf vitality varies

Thanks to our Programme Calf project, we have been able to collect a lot of data on calf vitality. In this study, we looked at whether there was a difference in the vitality of veal calves when they were fed cow’s milk or calf milk on the dairy farm.

This study found that the vitality of milk-fed calves was higher due to their higher vitamin and mineral status.

Boost vitality with a vitamin-mineral mix

A good vitamin and mineral supplement is needed to increase the vitality of calves fed on cow’s milk. Denkacare Vitaladd is a perfect supplement to cow’s milk and ensures that calves get enough vitamins and minerals. In addition, Vitaladd contains citric acid, which lowers the pH. This improves the coagulation of the milk in the abomasum and reduces bacterial growth in the milk. Vitaladd contains extra vitamin D, which plays an important role in the metabolism of phosphorus and calcium and has a positive influence on bone development and the innate immune system of calves.
