Acidification Of Whole Milk – 3 Reasons Why
Good digestion is a broad term in calf rearing. It is often used to describe the avoidance of diarrhoea, but there is more to it than that. Milk is digested both in the abomasum and in the intestine. Pre-digestion takes place in the abomasum using acid and enzymes (including clotting). This allows the calf to better absorb the nutrients offered at the intestinal level….
Applying split suckling to piglets
The number of live born piglets has been increasing for years, for a pig farmer this brings with it the necessary challenges. To ensure that each piglet takes in sufficient colostrum and to help even the smallest piglets to get enough colostrum, split suckling can be applied. The importance of sufficient colostrum has been demonstrated several times, but how do you ensure as a pig farmer that each piglet has taken in sufficient colostrum?…

It all depends on your situation. Feeding piglet milk ensures a……
Optimal use of transition milk
There is no doubt anymore about the necessity of good colostrum management. Many studies have established that the health and results of the calves clearly improve when good quality, clean colostrum is fed in ample amounts. The effect of feeding transition milk (no colostrum and no milk, but what’s in between from milkings 2 to 6) is also becoming more and more known. The results appear to be good, especially with regard to the intestinal health and growth of the calf….
Main milk mixing error is a too low concentration
The most common milk mixing error is a mistake in the concentration of the milk. The advice is to add 150 g of milk powder for every liter of milk. However, it is very easy to make the understandable mistake of mixing 150 g of milk powder with one liter of water. This will increase the total quantity of milk because the 150 g of powder will increase the volume of the final mix. In 10 liters of mixed milk there should be 1.5 kg of powder. If you add those 1.5 kg to 10 liters of water, the overall outcome……
