Let curiosity lead you

Pig Farm

At Denkavit, we invest in knowledge that moves the industry forward. Our Pig Farm in Voorthuizen, the Netherlands, is part of the DenkaFarm Innovation Centre and was completely rebuilt in 2016. With around 260 sows, this modern research facility enables us to study every aspect of piglet rearing — from birth to 25 kg — in real-life conditions.

Pig Farm – The Netherlands

Focus on Innovation and Welfare

The Pig Farm is designed to anticipate the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow’s pig production.

  • We work with free-farrowing pens and various feeding systems in the farrowing unit to gain broad experience under different management conditions.
  • Our research includes digestion trials and practical studies that help us translate science directly into on-farm solutions.
  • We follow piglets from birth up to 9 weeks of age, around 25 kg live weight, to understand their full early-life development.
  • Key research topics include piglet vitality in the farrowing house, the transition from farrowing to weaning, and rearing piglets with long tails.
  • Animal welfare is central to everything we do — we are proud to be affiliated with “KDV” and the “Beter Leven” certification scheme.

From Knowledge to Collaboration

Our facility is also designed for openness and exchange. A dedicated visitor corridor allows guests to view the animals without causing disturbance. We regularly host study clubs, events, and open days where farmers, students, and professionals can learn from our research and discuss practical challenges together.
